Man-made disasters. Ten most harmful inventions of mankind

The fuel seat is an invention by American engineer Kenneth Brock for light or sport aircraft. In this case, no one was hurt - it did not come to production. Of course, extra fuel never hurts, but what kind of pilot would want to take off while sitting on a bomb?

Glider. Otto Lilienthal was a 19th-century German aviation pioneer who designed the first biplane and built eleven test gliders. On one of them, he crashed during the next flight. His last words were the famous phrase: "Victims are inevitable."

The Ford Pinto is the infamous Ford Motor Company's passenger car, produced from 1970 to 1978, and has been on the "worst car in the world" lists more than once. According to rumors, the problem was insufficient protection of the fuel tank, which the company knew about, but chose not to fix the defect. Later tests showed that the car was quite reliable, but the legend was already too strong to disappear so easily.

Hydrogenated oils and fats are created by treating foods with high pressure hydrogen. At first glance, they are harmless, inexpensive and have a long shelf life, but their constant use is very dangerous. At the same time, there is often no mention of hydrogenated oils on the product label. Many researchers tipped them off the "glory" of olestra.

Majestic airships represented a whole era of aeronautics. They were actively used both in war and in peacetime. But a series of disasters, the most memorable of which was the collapse of the LZ 129 Hindenburg, filled with explosive hydrogen instead of helium, put an end to their operation.

DDT is one of the most effective insecticides ever invented by mankind, and has shown itself to be excellent in the fight against malarial mosquitoes. Alas, its toxic effects on people and the environment were not immediately discovered. DDT not only causes cancer and mutations, but also accumulates in the body, passing through milk to children. Now its use is strictly limited.

Thalidomide is the clearest example of negligence in drug testing in the mid-20th century. It was prescribed as a sedative for pregnant women, but the drug caused congenital deformities in their children - the absence of limbs and internal organs. Thalidomide affected about 10,000 newborns before it was banned. Later, however, it was found that the drug is extremely effective against leprosy and cancer.

agent orange. During the Vietnam War, trying to find the camouflaged hideouts of the Viet Cong, the US military sprayed millions of liters of the infernal mixture "Agent Orange", designed to destroy vegetation, over the jungle. The chemical turned out to be a terrible poison that caused cancer and mutations in hundreds of thousands of people in Vietnam. No compensation was ever paid for this.

Asbestos is quite useful when it comes to electrical insulation and heat resistance. In the twentieth century, this mineral was often used in the construction of houses, including residential ones. Only at the end of the century it became clear that asbestos dust is the most dangerous carcinogen, and now the use of asbestos is prohibited in one country after another.

When an unsuccessfully designed glider falls, it is a tragedy. When a pregnancy drug causes mutations in newborns, it's a disaster. Here are ten dangerous inventions, the harm from which was not immediately realized.

People of today are surrounded by many new inventions, but few people think about where they came from and how they influenced our lives.

The basis of all world discoveries are both useful and funny, unnecessary, and, unfortunately, very dangerous inventions.
This article is about what innovations in the modern world can sooner or later destroy humanity.

Nuclear weapon

To date, this type of weapon is concentrated in several countries of the world: Great Britain, Russia, China, France, the USA, etc. At one time, Ukraine was the third country in the world in terms of nuclear arsenal capacity, but in 1994 we abandoned it.
Nuclear weapons pose a particular danger to the lives of people all over the planet. In the event of a nuclear war, everything will be destroyed. So, if the dams of hydraulic structures are destroyed, there will be a flood, if nuclear power plants are destroyed - a significant increase in the radiation level, infection of agricultural crops, which will lead to a famine in the future. If a nuclear strike is carried out in winter, people who can survive will simply die from the cold, since they will have nowhere to live.
The detrimental outcome of the long-term use of nuclear weapons will be the destruction of the ozone layer, which ultimately will have a detrimental effect on all living things.
Thus, a nuclear war will not be able to resolve interstate problems, it will simply cause a climate catastrophe (cold, massive fires), an increase in cancer among surviving people and, in the future, the death of all living things.

Nuclear power

A very topical issue of the present time is the insecurity of nuclear power plants. Many countries of the world are discussing the topic of abandoning this type of energy, because accidents at nuclear power plants always threaten global environmental disasters. Take only the example of 1986 at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which led to the strongest large-scale radioactive contamination of the territory of Ukraine and Europe, as well as to the illness of thousands of people.
Today the situation with nuclear power plants in Ukraine is deplorable. Nuclear reactors are already old and unable to operate normally, but the power engineers do not want to take this into account and continue to operate as usual. Such actions only increase the likelihood of further accidents.
The only benefit of nuclear energy is that such electricity is cheap. But you can't run away from reality: the longer countries don't abandon the use of nuclear power plants, the more nuclear waste will be generated, which will be dangerous for at least another million years. Nuclear energy also contributes to the emergence of the greenhouse effect and an increase in terrorism (after all, nuclear weapons are made with the help of nuclear reactors).

Chemical fertilizers

The basis of chemical fertilizers was laid in the mid-1930s, but only recently (XX century) did their mass production and use begin.
Today, the most popular and common are phosphorus and nitrogen fertilizers.
Among scientists around the world, opinions differ about the dangers of this kind of fertilizer. On the one hand, the world's population is growing, daily requiring an increasing amount of plant and animal food, and the world's cultivated areas occupy only 15% of the Earth's surface, and it is simply impossible to increase them in a short time without chemical fertilizers. On the other hand, if you use them constantly, then the biological cycle of plants is disrupted, which necessarily leads to soil erosion, as well as the destruction of microorganisms and insects in it. Then the gradual death of fish and other animals begins, as fertilizers enter water bodies through groundwater.
One way or another, this controversial issue must be resolved, and immediately. To do large crops in order to obtain more material resources will not lead us to good. Chemical fertilizers are a kind of slow weapon for the destruction of the flora and fauna of the planet, as well as the emergence of dangerous diseases.

Internal combustion engine

Environmentalists have long referred to internal combustion engines powered by diesel or gasoline as one of the worst inventions of mankind.
They emit heavy metals into the atmosphere, which burns atmospheric oxygen, poison people with carbon monoxide, and contribute to the creation of the greenhouse effect (warming climate, drought).
According to the World Health Organization, such emissions reduce human life expectancy by an average of 4 years.
Improper disposal of used oils, engine batteries is slowly poisoning us and our nature.

Freon

Freon was synthesized in 1928 by an American chemist. Since this gas has high thermodynamic properties, it soon became widely used in the production of air conditioners, refrigerators, as well as aerosols and perfumes. Only in the 80s, scientists proved that, decomposing in the atmosphere with the release of chlorine, freon destroys the ozone layer, and if the gas is heated above 250 ° C, very toxic products are formed that can be a strong toxic agent.

Polyethylene

This material has found widespread use in the production of packaging films, bags, pipes and toys. The danger lies in the fact that during its combustion harmful substances are released, and in the ground it does not decompose at all. According to environmental scientists, the number of ocean inhabitants is reduced by more than 100,000 units per year due to polyethylene waste.
Also, various unhealthy microorganisms, including yeast fungi and E. coli bacteria, intensively accumulate and multiply on polyethylene. Thus, if you store products for a long time in bags or under a film of this material, they not only acquire an unpleasant smell and taste, but also lead to inflammatory processes in the gastrointestinal tract and severe poisoning.

genetically modified organisms

The issue of safety of products with GMOs is very relevant today. Much has not been proven, but animal studies make you wonder.
Supporters of the use of GMOs have been arguing for several decades that such technologies will help humanity cope with the growing problem of hunger, but, as other scientists have found out, the use of genetically modified foods can cause all kinds of mutations, and new types of allergies, and pathologies of internal organs, and infertility .

Antibiotics

Today, modern man is increasingly dependent on medications. There are certainly benefits from drugs. But you need to remember and understand that not all over-the-counter pills are safe.
There is a widespread belief that by taking an antibiotic, a person recovers faster. But it's not. The fact is that such drugs only block the reproduction of bacteria or, at best, kill them, but this is where their “duties” end.
Antibiotics are very toxic. They poison almost the entire body. First, the liver is under attack, then the immune system, kidneys and other organs.
By killing bacteria in the body, antibiotics arrange the so-called evolutionary selection, which is characterized by the emergence of mutant bacteria that could survive and adapt.

Conclusion

"Why was all this invented?" - the question is relevant, but, unfortunately, there is no answer yet. On the one hand, there are positive arguments in favor of such inventions, and on the other hand, one cannot use for good that which brings evil. The decision to use the same nuclear facilities or GMOs is not left to ordinary people. Scientists play with science, with nature. Let's see what this will lead to in the future.

Introduction

Today, we all live in fairly comfortable conditions, thanks to the achievements of civilization and enjoy its benefits, which we have received as a result of numerous discoveries and inventions of mankind. We are accustomed to such a comfortable, modern life and perceive all these achievements as an integral part of our daily lives.

Of course, we are grateful to all those who filled our life with discoveries and inventions, thereby making it much easier, making it more comfortable and interesting. Today, the possibilities of human choice are enormous, both in means of transport, means of communication, and in various multimedia means. We cannot imagine our life without mobile phones, computers, TVs and other benefits. But due to the fact that lately more and more often there is a warning to humanity about the reverse side of all these super achievements, I thought: how safe are they?

aim This study was to identify the most harmful achievements of civilization.

object the study are students of grades 7 - 11 of the municipal budgetary educational institution "Secondary school No. 5" of the city of Nizhnyaya Salda.

The author conducted a study by questioning and interviewing, using the inductive method. Students were asked what, in their opinion, there are the most harmful achievements of civilization at the present time. A maximum of three answers could be selected. The respondents were students of grades 7-11 in the amount of 55 people.

Realization of the set goal seems to be possible by solving the following tasks:

1. Study the literature, statistical data on this study.

2. Provide basic information about the dangers of the achievements of civilization.

3. Analyze the results of the survey and interviews.

Research methods: questioning and interviewing, quantitative and qualitative analysis of research data.

Experimental research base: Municipal budgetary educational institution "Secondary school No. 5" of the city of Nizhnyaya Salda.

The study was conducted in the form of a written survey.

Sources of information: materials of Internet resources, mass media, encyclopedic literature. Also, in the process of working on the project, the results of various surveys on this topic among students of their school were used.

Scientific and practical significance of the study:

Development of a kind of memo on the use of these useful, familiar to us, but at the same time dangerous modern inventions.

The results of the study can be used for further scientific research.

Chapter 1. The role of inventions in human life

The whole history of mankind testifies that man is endowed with the gift of inventing, and his desire to invent is immeasurable. Human inventions include such impressive things as the airplane, the computer and the telephone, which have significantly changed the world, as well as introduced principles and methods that are successfully used in everyday life.

The inventive gift of man did not stop at nothing. The concept of "invention" has a social, universal value. After all, who needs useless, meaningless inventions, even if they demonstrate unprecedented power.

Researchers and scientists do not skimp on conducting all sorts of studies, and each time the published results can plunge the faint of heart into shock.

We also decided to conduct a survey. The respondents were asked the following question: What achievements of civilization do you consider the most harmful? (choose up to three answers). The answers of the respondents were distributed as follows:

As can be seen from the results of the survey, according to teenagers. The most dangerous for society today are such achievements of civilization as nuclear weapons (on a global scale), as well as drugs, alcohol and cigarettes (on a scale of each person).

To find out for yourself how to deal with these achievements, you need to learn about them and others in more detail.

Chapter 2. Achievements of civilization that influenced the development of the modern world community.

On September 3, 1864, perhaps one of the most significant explosions in the history of mankind thundered in one of the laboratories in Stockholm. The incident occurred during experiments on nitroglycerin, which were conducted by Alfred Nobel. Nevertheless, Alfred found the strength to continue experiments on the explosive substance. For three years, the scientist tried to stabilize this easily exploding substance. The resulting mixture was patented by Alfred Nobel on November 25, 1867 under the name "dynamite". In my opinion, it was this event that initiated the rapid scientific and technological development.

2.1. Nuclear weapons.

No one will be surprised that we started our list with nuclear weapons. World countries that have not abandoned it use it as a way to intimidate opponents. However, if one day several countries decide to apply it simultaneously, then the worst of the scenarios is the split of the planet (and this is not a figurative expression), the best is a climate catastrophe, the destruction of the ozone layer, the death of all life. Of course, humanity, in its entire history, has not yet created a weapon more powerful and more deadly than the atomic bomb. Thus, a nuclear war will not be able to resolve interstate problems, it will simply cause a climate catastrophe (cold, massive fires), an increase in cancer among surviving people and, in the future, the death of all living things.

2.2 Drugs, alcohol and cigarettes .

Entrepreneurial people build their super-profitable business on human weaknesses. Someone is trying to escape from reality, causing irreparable harm to their body and replenishing the wallets of others. There is no need to say anything more when so much has already been written about it. Warnings are posted even on cigarette packaging, it's too bad that not everyone takes them seriously.

2.3. Nuclear power.

The next item is nuclear technology again. How often have we heard about the peaceful atom, about how cheap nuclear energy is for us, and that with well-established operation, nuclear power plants do not harm the environment. But who can guarantee their smooth operation? Currently, experts from all over the world are raising the question of the insecurity of nuclear power plants. Many countries of the world are discussing the topic of abandoning this type of energy, because accidents at nuclear power plants always threaten global environmental disasters. A vivid example of this is the accident in 1986 at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and in 2011 at the Japanese station "Fukushima-1". The only benefit of nuclear energy is that such electricity is very cheap. Despite the fact that one nuclear reactor produces a million kilowatt-hours of electrical energy per hour, while not burning fossil fuels, a nuclear power plant still produces much more dangerous waste - radioactive. The half-life of some of them is several billion years. And once accumulated in the human body, many of them are no longer excreted 1 .

2.4. Chemical fertilizers .

The basis of agrochemistry was laid in the 30s and 40s of the 19th century by the Frenchman Jean Baptiste Bussingault and the German Justus Liebig, but the mass production of chemical fertilizers began in the 20th century. In recent years, the volume of their consumption reaches 160 million tons, nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers are the most common. Of course, this is an effective and quick way to increase the amount of food that is constantly in short supply for the entire population of the planet. Meanwhile, their constant use disrupts the biological cycle of plants, leads to soil erosion, the destruction of microorganisms and insects in it. Through groundwater, fertilizers enter water bodies and cause the death of fish and other animals. Phosphorus, nitrogen and other fertilizers harm flora, fauna, incl. adversely affect human health, contribute to the occurrence of serious diseases.

2.5. Oil production.

But the prey itself is only part of the overall danger. The extracted oil from the drilling platform still needs to be delivered to the shore with the help of huge tankers. The world's first oil-loading steam tanker was built in 1877 in Sweden by order of the Nobel Brothers Partnership. Now more than 4,000 tankers ply the seas and oceans, transporting more than 2 billion tons of oil per year. At the same time, environmental disasters caused by these vessels have become regular. One of the largest was the 1978 spill of 220,000 tons of oil from the American tanker Amoco Cadiz, which polluted 360 km of the French coast. The ecological balance in the region is still disturbed.

2.6. Internal combustion engines.

The operation of these engines is provided by gasoline and diesel fuels, the combustion of which annually releases millions of tons of toxic substances into the atmosphere. Environmentalists have long classified internal combustion engines as one of the most dangerous inventions of mankind. Their harm, for example, unlike nuclear weapons, lies in the fact that it does not manifest itself immediately. These engines emit heavy metals into the atmosphere, which burn atmospheric oxygen, poison people with carbon monoxide, and contribute to the creation of the greenhouse effect (warming climate, drought).

2.7. Freon.

Freon was synthesized in 1928 by American chemist Thomas Midgley Jr. At the same time, the greenhouse activity of freon is 1300-8500 times higher than the similar properties of carbon dioxide. Since we are talking about the thinning of the ozone layer, then how can we not recall the freon invented in 1928. This gas was used for a long time in refrigeration equipment, perfumery, before they realized how dangerous it was for the environment.

2.8. Genetic Engineering .

Genetically modified organisms were obtained by American scientists in the early 1980s. In 1988, the first plantings of transgenic cereals appeared in the United States. Now crops with modified genes occupy more than 100 million hectares in the world. Meanwhile, the question of the safety of products with GMOs remains open. After analyzing the answers of the respondents and getting acquainted with the achievements of civilization listed above, the author thought: Why did the respondents not mention various gadgets (mobile phone, computer, tablet, etc.)? Can they be considered harmless? Therefore, further the author of the work turned to the study of how modern teenagers relate to various means of communication and gadgets (the author intends to pay special attention to mobile phones and computers, as well as television).

2.9. Means of communication.

2.9.1 Mobile phone.

"Voluntary irradiation of the brain with microwaves from a mobile phone is the largest biological experiment on a person" 2

Researchers and scientists do not skimp on conducting all sorts of studies, and each time the published results can plunge the faint of heart into shock. It turns out that "mortal" dangers lie in wait for a person in the most unexpected places. These are, for example, mobile phones. Today they are an integral part of the life of a modern person, it is hard to imagine how until recently people did without this very convenient, useful thing. A mobile phone is always dangerous when it is turned on. At the same time, the danger of mobile phones lies in the fact that the phone turns out to be the most "dirty" household item. In terms of the number of bacteria, including dangerous ones, it is ahead of the keyboard, door handles, shoe soles and even the toilet. It's time to think about the disinfection of our main means of communication.

Question 1. How much time per day do you spend talking on the phone?

Question 2. How much time per day do you spend on phone games?

Question 3. How much time per day do you spend talking online on the phone?

The responses from the survey were overwhelming. It turned out that teenagers do not talk on the phone so much (from 1 to 2 hours a day on average - 36% of respondents, the rest - less than 6 minutes on average per day), how much they communicate on the phone online, using SMS (from 2 to 3 hours on average per day - 24%, more than 3 hours - 66%). This result suggests that adolescents very quickly develop dependence on the phone, which, in turn, cannot but worry.

2.9.2. A computer .

Electronic computing technology has long been firmly established in all spheres of our life. The computer is the source of the necessary information. The computer thinks, decides, draws, draws, plays, designs, teaches, registers, etc. The unprecedented speed of receiving and transmitting visual information to the addressee, and, consequently, the possibility of the most effective practical use of this information are the main reasons for universal computerization. However, a long stay at the computer screen without observing the necessary rules is not harmless to health. In the process of working on this topic, I conducted a small survey "Your attitude to the computer" among the students of my (7B) class. The following results were obtained during the analysis:

The majority noted a positive attitude towards the computer (76%).

To the question: Have you thought about the impact of the computer on human health? the majority answered that they had not thought about it (78%)

These results prompted us to conduct another mini-survey on how the well-being of those who spend a lot of time at the computer is changing. As a result, the author came to the following conclusions:

67% of students, when asked whether they experience fatigue or any other negative sensations after prolonged work on the computer, answered positively, while some named some general lethargy (17%), pain in the eyes (43%) as a negative impact ), back (27%), and even memory disorder (16%).

To the question "Do you get tired of working on the computer?" 26% answered "yes", 60% - "no", 13% - "I don't know".

In the history of the development of the computer, there are cases when the computer causes the most serious disorders, in particular the psyche.

I would like to note another small minus of the computer is the occurrence of computer addiction. Indeed, long-term work at the computer, surfing the Internet and playing computer games can cause such mental disorders. Working at a computer often absorbs all the attention of a working person, and therefore, such people often neglect normal nutrition and work from hand to mouth all day.

With all this, the question of the questionnaire: “Does a computer need a computer in a person’s life?” 87% of students answered "yes", 2% answered "no", 11% - "only for work".

It follows from this that, after all, a computer is still necessary in our life today, and to abandon it means to deprive ourselves of the most important achievement of modern civilization. The positive and negative aspects of the computer are roughly in balance.

2.9.3. TV.

Another invention of mankind, which has recently been criticized more and more often, and, first of all, not because of the harmful effect on human health, but as a factor affecting the psychology of the viewer. This is a well-known television. According to V.I. Lebedev, doctor of psychological sciences, it is children who are the most vulnerable group to hypnotic influence, due to the insecurity of their psyche by self-consciousness. If earlier parents or close relatives were engaged in the upbringing of the personality, now television has taken over these functions. Unlike parents, TV never withdraws from young viewers, satisfies their spiritual needs and instructs them in life. It is terrible that children, due to their lack of full awareness of the boundaries of reality, perceive all the events that occur before their eyes as real. Murder and violence do not cause them feelings of fear or disgust, because as a result of getting used to such television programs, what they see on the screen becomes not only real for children, but also natural.

Unfortunately, modern man does not even allow the thought of not watching TV at all. He is afraid to "lag behind life", not to be aware of all events, to reduce his horizons ...

Conclusion

The results obtained in the course of my small study make it possible once again to make sure that the most important inventions in various areas of human life make it more comfortable, convenient and interesting, but it is the analysis of the results obtained that opens the reverse side of these inventions with a minus sign .

The responses from the survey were overwhelming. It turned out that teenagers do not talk on the phone so much as communicate on the phone on the network, using SMS. This result suggests that adolescents very quickly develop dependence on the phone, which, in turn, cannot but worry.

Further, having studied the relationship of a teenager with a computer, the author made the following conclusion: after all, a computer is necessary in our life today, and to abandon it means to deprive oneself of the most important achievement of modern civilization. The positive and negative aspects of the computer are roughly in balance.

Another invention of mankind, which has recently been criticized more and more often, and, first of all, not because of the harmful effect on human health, but as a factor affecting the psychology of the viewer. This is a well-known television.

A very important issue when considering the influence of television on the masses is its effect on children.

How to be? Refuse? Reconcile?

Most likely, it is simply necessary to understand that when used wisely and within reasonable limits, any inventions are useful, that without the above achievements there is no development, and modern life is impossible, even without diapers, modern life would be complicated, all discoveries contribute to the progress of civilization, it has always been so , starting from ancient times: even with a digging stick you could move on the head, or you could dig out the root. There are no harmful inventions, there are unwise people. By themselves, the achievements of civilization can be neither harmful nor beneficial. All of the above are useful when used correctly.

So, the data obtained in the course of the study not only allowed us to assess the impact of the above achievements of civilization on the modern teenager, but also to identify other, even more important problems, namely: the influence of the Internet and especially social networks on the psyche and health of a teenager.

Therefore, it is this important issue that the author of the work has identified as a priority for the next study. Thus, for the 2017-18 academic year, the theme of work for the future was determined - "The influence of the global network on the psyche and health of a modern teenager." To do this, the author plans to involve a teacher of computer science and a school psychologist-teacher in joint activities as scientific supervisors.

When we say dangerous inventions of mankind, most of us immediately imagine a nuclear explosion or a machine gun, or something else just as dangerous. But in fact, there are many inventions that are more dangerous than any weapon. The unknown danger of familiar things - so you can say if you look around.

The power of man lies in modern technology. Without computers and phones, rockets and planes, household appliances and antibiotics, he is weak and defenseless. The question arises: are the results of useful inventions so uniquely good? Maybe you should take a closer look at them?

    Electricity is useful and formidable

Approximately 200 years ago, mankind learned to produce electric current. This has become a great boon and a great danger. The mains voltage is very high and the shock can be fatal. The human body not only receives a mechanical defeat, but also a violation of all nerve signals. There is an imbalance in the control of all internal organs. Super-strong muscle contractions tear ligaments and break bones.

The problem is that the current cannot be seen, heard or smelled. Like a ninja, he lurks in dilapidated electrical networks or faulty appliances. A dangerous meeting is brought closer by temporary wire connections, repair of non-de-energized equipment, network overloads. In addition to direct damage, a short circuit often causes a fire.

    Controversial benefits of PC

The computer very quickly became an ordinary thing in human life, conquering all segments of the population, young and old. This routine and prevalence lulls vigilance, people forget about the dangers of global computerization.

When using modern household appliances, strong electromagnetic radiation arises that can distort the course of processes in the body. Studies show that electromagnetic radiation is very dangerous. As a result of prolonged exposure, a person can get blood diseases, cancer, decreased immunity, and sexual dysfunction. Fans of long-term work close to the monitor are guaranteed deterioration of vision, destruction of the lens of the eye. The noise effects of the system unit and operating printers adversely affect the brain. The erroneous organization of the workplace can disfigure posture - especially for children and adolescents. In addition, a computer - an electrical device that operates under high voltage - can "treat" with an electric shock or fire.

    Caution: WiFi!

Wireless Internet is a wonderful, very convenient invention. However, the impact of such networks on the body is very dangerous. Wi-Fi operates on the same frequencies as a microwave oven. The list of side effects includes cancer, memory impairment, migraine, joint pain, dementia, and heart failure.

    Get away from the TV!

It is becoming more and more obvious that the usual household items are slowly but surely harming. More precisely, they gradually kill.

The noise of a constantly running TV in many families is considered a vital necessity. Often a person experiences an oppressive feeling of emptiness in an apartment if the notorious box is silent. Few people think about how formidable this device is. The electromagnetic field destroys the hormonal and endocrine systems, causes mental and cardiovascular diseases.

According to one version, the Nobel Prize fund was formed because Alfred Nobel wanted his name to be associated with him, and not with the dynamite he invented. Throughout the history of mankind, many scientists regretted their discoveries, and some simply did not understand that their inventions were dangerous for both the environment and humans. Let's look at a list of 15 dangerous inventions. We formed it on the basis of the opinion of the majority, if it were based on the subjective opinion of the author, then a few more points would be added, for example, serial films and Coca-Cola. So, about the serious.

The next item is nuclear technology again. How often have we heard about the peaceful atom, about how cheap nuclear energy is for us, and that with well-established operation, nuclear power plants do not harm the environment. But who can guarantee their smooth operation?

The consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which occurred in 1986, are still felt. Another problem is the radioactive waste that we pass on to our descendants by inheritance.

Another weapon of mass destruction, involving the use of the toxic properties of certain substances that produce a poisonous effect. How disastrous this is, we know from the history textbook (used during world wars) and from news stories (modern civil wars).

In the 40s of the twentieth century, the development of chemical fertilizers appeared, after a few decades their mass production began. Of course, this is an effective and quick way to increase the amount of food that is constantly in short supply for the entire population of the planet.

But phosphorus, nitrogen and other fertilizers harm flora, fauna, incl. adversely affect human health, contribute to the occurrence of serious diseases.

Another chemical that helps increase yields while preserving them are pesticides used to control pests, weeds, plant diseases. They harm the ecosystem as a whole, in particular they cause great damage to birds. A person can cause allergic reactions, diathesis.

Everyone knows what harm internal combustion engines do to us. Thanks to them, the excess concentration of heavy metals in the air. On the conscience of the inventor of such an engine and the destruction of the ozone layer.

Since we are talking about the thinning of the ozone layer, then how can we not recall the freon invented in 1928. This gas was used for a long time in refrigeration equipment, perfumery, before they realized how dangerous it was for the environment.

And again, hunger gave rise to a new discovery - genetically modified foods that are more resistant to external influences. However, many scientists agree that this is a "time bomb", the consequences of their use can be serious diseases, mutations.

The problem is not in the technology itself, but in the fact that again it is impossible to exclude accidents, the consequences of which for the environment are catastrophic. For example, in 1978, as a result of an accident on an American tanker, 220 thousand tons of oil were spilled, and the ecology in that area has not recovered to this day.

toxic fluorine, nitrogen and carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide- all these are by-products of obtaining aluminum by electrolysis. These toxic substances adversely affect vegetation (especially fluorine) and human health (bronchitis and other respiratory diseases develop).

When burned, polyethylene waste emits a toxic substance, and does not decompose in the soil, but contributes to the reproduction of harmful organisms. Draw your own conclusions.

You can’t call antibiotics harmful, in many respects we owe our considerable life expectancy precisely to the discovery of penicillin. The dangerous thing is that they are sold without a prescription, and most consider them a magic pill for everything. In practice, they poison the entire body, harm the functioning of the liver and kidneys. Using them inappropriately can lead to negative consequences.

    13. Drugs

    14. Alcohol

    15. Cigarettes

Let's comment on the last three points in a general way.
